RSS or social feeds: choosing what you read

WeaveRead 1.2.0

Social apps and news aggregators decide which posts you see and in what order. RSS works the other way round: you pick the sources, and you get everything they publish, in order. Both have a place; here is when RSS is the better fit.

You choose the sources

With RSS, a post reaches you because you subscribed to its site. Nothing is inserted between posts, and you do not have to follow anyone to see their writing.

Order you can predict

A feed reader lists posts by date. When you reach the last one you read yesterday, you are done. That makes it easier to keep up with a handful of writers without endless scrolling.

When social feeds are still useful

Social feeds are better for discovery and conversation. A common pattern is to find writers there, then subscribe to their blogs by RSS so you do not miss what they publish.

In WeaveRead, that means adding the feeds you care about and letting the timeline fill in by date.
