Wagebook

Tracking work that is paid per shift

Wagebook 1.1.0

Not every job pays by the hour. Tutors are paid per lesson, event staff per event, carers per visit. Wagebook lets a job use a per-shift rate, so each session counts as one fixed amount however long it took.

Per-shift rates

Set a job’s rate to per shift and enter the amount. Each shift you log adds that amount to the pay period, while still recording the start and end time so you know how long the work really took.

A job can have several named rates, for example a standard lesson and a longer exam-prep session, and you pick the right one when you log.

Mixing hourly and per-shift work

If you also have an hourly job, set it up as a separate job. Each one keeps its own pay schedule and totals, and the calendar shows both.

Checking session-based pay

Session work is easy to under-count: a cancelled lesson that should still be paid, or an extra visit nobody wrote down. Recording each session and comparing the period total with what arrived catches these quickly.

Questions

Can one job have both an hourly and a per-shift rate?

A job uses one pay unit. If some work is hourly and some is per session, create two jobs.

Does the shift length matter for per-shift pay?

Not for the amount. Wagebook still records start and end so you can see the hours you actually worked.

Can I add a note to each session?

Yes. Notes stay on your phone and are left out of CSV exports unless you include them.
